Art in Computing

In Year 2, our budding artists have been embracing technology in the most creative way—by using 2Paint on Purple Mash to explore and recreate iconic art styles! This exciting project blended digital skills with art history, giving pupils a fun and interactive platform to express themselves while learning about famous artists and techniques.

We began our journey by diving into the world of Impressionism, looking at the dreamy, light-filled landscapes of artists like Claude Monet. The children used the brush and texture tools on 2Paint to mimic the soft, layered strokes that characterise impressionist paintings. They created scenes filled with rolling hills, sunlit fields, and shimmering water—proving that a digital brush can be just as expressive as a real one! It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their understanding of colour, light, and mood in art.

Finally, we turned our attention to pattern design, drawing inspiration from the timeless work of William Morris. Using 2Paint’s pattern tools, Year 2 students designed their own digital wallpaper patterns. They explored symmetry, repetition, and the natural motifs that Morris is so well known for—flowers, vines, leaves, and birds. The children loved experimenting with colour palettes and layout, and their final designs wouldn’t look out of place in a stylish home today!
