Year 5 Self-Portraits

This week, the children completed their final mixed-media portrait pieces, bringing together all the skills they have developed throughout our art unit.

They explored portraiture, focusing on facial features, shape and proportion, before experimenting with colour, pattern and collage. As part of their learning, the children studied the work of Liverpool-based artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman, taking inspiration from her bold use of colour and mixed media to create expressive, vibrant portraits full of personality.

Throughout the process, the children showed fantastic creativity, focus and confidence in their artistic choices.

Every final piece is completely unique and reflects the individuality of each artist — we are incredibly proud of the results 🌈✨
