Year 5 Begin Gymnastics!

This half-term, Year 5 have started their new gymnastics unit, focusing on floor routines and developing control, balance, and teamwork.

The children have been exploring symmetrical and asymmetrical balances, both individually and with a partner. They’ve learned how to hold positions steadily, move smoothly between shapes, and think carefully about body tension and posture.

Working in pairs has encouraged plenty of communication and cooperation, as pupils helped each other refine their routines and create short movement sequences. There’s been a great mix of creativity and concentration — with lots of laughter too, especially when trying out tricky balances for the first time!

As the lessons progress, Year 5 will be building their own mini-routines that combine balances, rolls, and transitions to show control, strength, and imagination. It’s been a brilliant start, and the class are already showing real confidence and flair on the mats.
