Clean and Green - Meryl Batchelder's visit to St. Teresa's

This month Earth Day was celebrated on the 22nd of April, a global event that aims to raise awareness and promote action on environmental issues. We were delighted to welcome Dr. Meryl Batchelder from the Ministry of Eco Education

Ministry of Eco Education | Home to run some fascinating workshops throughout KS1 and KS2.

Each class was set a different big question linked to sustainability during the morning assembly, and spent the day exploring their topic. We then reconvened in the afternoon and classes presented their findings:

  • Y1 What does it take to make a cup of tea? Thinking about how tea is produced, global trade and threats and how we need to think about what we buy.

  • Y2 How important is soil? Thinking about why soil is both fascinating and essential, what the threats are and how we can protect it.

  • Y3 Is the weather changing? Covering the difference between weather and climate, why it’s changing and how we can take action.

  • Y4 'What is really renewable'? Different types of energy we use, why and how we need to transition to clean energy and how we can identify greenwashing.

  • Y5 'Should we all go vegan?' Thinking about what they eat and why plant-based diets have a lower impact.

  • Y6 'Do we live on a plastic planet? Covering the problems and potential solutions around plastic waste.

It was a fascinating fun-filled day and children learnt so much about how we can help protect our planet!
