Year 3 children recently took a fascinating dive into the world of newspapers and news reporting. With “Fantastic Mr. Fox” by Roald Dahl as our inspiration, we embarked on a mission to create our very own newspaper report. But before we could dive into the writing process, we had to learn the ropes of journalism.
From understanding the anatomy of a newspaper report to mastering the art of catchy headlines and captivating photos. We discussed everything from direct and indirect speech to the five Ws – who, what, when, where, and why – that make a story truly come alive. But it wasn’t all serious business. We also took a peek into the world of digital news and how technology has changed the way we consume information. The kids were fascinated by the idea of news traveling at the speed of light, and they couldn’t wait to explore how it all worked!
Then came the fun part – putting our newfound skills to the test! With “Fantastic Mr. Fox” as our muse, the kids worked together to craft their very own newspaper report. They brainstormed catchy names, debated over the perfect headline, and carefully selected photos to accompany their writing.
