Year 1 – Art – Lines and Mark Making

This week in art lessons, Year 1 have looked at how to draw different lines and create artwork using a variety of lines and shapes.

First, children looked at piece of art by Zaria Forman and Bridget Riley. They looked at the use of lines in their artwork and children practised drawing horizontal, vertical, diagonal, wavy and cross-hatched lines. Pupils then did a group piece of art inspired by Zaria Forman’s art work ‘waves’. They used different materials such as pencils, oil pastels and felt tip pens to create this.

Children then looked at the work of Wassily Kandinsky and his use of 2D shapes in his artwork. Pupils were inspired by this and created their own piece of art work using 2D shapes and colours.

Finally, children produced their final piece of work in art which was an observational drawing. Children had a selection of fruit and vegetables and drew what they had in front of them, using all the skills and knowledge they have learned this week. Super work Year 1⭐️👏🏼🎨
