Year 3 – Mathematics – Times Tables

Year 3 children have been busy with their times tables this week. We have revisited the 2x, 5x, and 10x tables, and children have practiced their rapid recall on the Hit the Button learning app. We talked about fact families in the times tables, and children are aware that if 4 x 2 = 8, then 2 x 4 must also equal 8. Children looked at how the answers are the same, but the groups are different. For example, 4 groups of 2 children would give a total of 8 children, and 2 groups of 4 children would also give 8 children in total. Children then looked at the 3x tables and noticed that answers show a patter of odd and even answers. We also looked at how repeated addition can also help – 3 x 3 = 9 so 3 + 3 + 3 = 9.
