Year 3 Build Skills for Their Castle Creations

Year 3 have been busy diving into the fascinating world of castles as part of their Design and Technology learning this term. Alongside discovering drawbridges, battlements, and moats, the children have been developing practical skills in preparation for an exciting final project — designing and building their very own model castles!

To get ready, pupils have been learning how to create 3D shapes from 2D nets. They carefully cut, folded, and assembled a variety of geometric shapes, building confidence with tabs, edges, and accurate measuring. These skills are essential for constructing the towers, turrets, and walls of their final castle models.

This practical work is helping pupils understand the importance of planning and precision in design, and they’re already brimming with ideas for how to personalise their castles. Moats, flags, secret doors and even dungeons have been enthusiastically discussed!

Watch this space for the grand unveiling of Year 3’s marvellous medieval masterpieces.
