A Visit from Ancient Egypt – With That History Bloke!
Today, the classroom was buzzing with excitement as we were transported back thousands of years to the land of pyramids, pharaohs, and mummies! We were lucky to welcome a very special guest—Richard, better known as That History Bloke—who brought Ancient Egypt to life in the most incredible way.
The children were fully immersed in the wonders of Egyptian civilisation through a fun, hands-on workshop that sparked curiosity and imagination at every turn.
🔤 Language & Hieroglyphs:We began by learning about the fascinating ancient Egyptian language. The children had a go at writing their own names in hieroglyphs, just like a real scribe might have done! It was amazing to see their excitement as they decoded the symbols and used them to create beautiful name plaques.
🪦 Embalming & Canopic Jars:Next, we explored the ancient ritual of mummification. With great enthusiasm (and a few squeals of surprise!), the children learned how Egyptians preserved their dead for the afterlife. They discovered the purpose of canopic jars and what was placed in each one—and let’s just say, they won’t forget the stomach, lungs, liver and intestines anytime soon!
🎭 Becoming a Pharaoh:A highlight of the session was when one lucky child was chosen to be dressed as a Pharaoh, complete with traditional headwear and royal regalia. The class watched in awe as our miniature monarch stood proudly at the front—history never felt so real!
🎲 Egyptian Games:To finish, the children tried out some of the games played by Egyptian children thousands of years ago. It was a wonderful reminder that, even though so much has changed, children have always loved to play and learn through fun!
This visit wasn’t just exciting—it was packed full of meaningful learning. The children deepened their understanding of ancient Egyptian life, belief systems, and culture. It helped them make connections between the past and present and brought their topic learning to life in a way that books and videos simply can't.
A huge thank you to That History Bloke for such a memorable day. We can’t wait to explore more history with this level of excitement and wonder!
