Y5 Science

Learning about the phases of the Moon in Year 5 Science became an engaging and delicious experience as students used Oreo cookies to explore this celestial phenomenon. By twisting the cookies apart and shaping the cream to represent the illuminated portions of the Moon, they recreated each phase: full moon, new moon, crescents, quarters, and gibbous phases. This hands-on activity made the abstract idea of lunar phases tangible and memorable, sparking excitement and curiosity. Plus, the treat at the end ensured the lesson was as enjoyable as it was educational—a perfect blend of learning and fun!
