Exploring Light and Science: Year 6's Engaging Trip to the Centre for Life

Year 6 students recently had an exciting opportunity to visit the Centre for Life, a science centre known for its interactive exhibits and hands-on workshops. The trip focused on exploring the fascinating world of light, alongside other engaging parts of the centre. The students found the experience both educational and enjoyable, appreciating how well-organised and interactive the visit was.

Discovering the Science of Light

The highlight of the trip was the light workshop, where students learned about the properties and behaviour of light through practical activities. Instead of just reading about light, they got to see it in action and experiment with it themselves. This approach helped the students understand complex concepts in a clear and memorable way.

During the workshop, the children explored how light travels, how it reflects and refracts, and how different colours combine to create white light. They used prisms to split light into rainbows and experimented with lenses to see how images can be magnified or focused. These hands-on activities made the science behind light tangible and exciting.

The workshop also included demonstrations on how light is essential in everyday life, from how our eyes perceive the world to how technology uses light in devices like cameras and screens. This connection to real-world applications helped the students see the relevance of what they were learning.

Exploring Interactive Exhibits

Beyond the light workshop, the Centre for Life offered a wide range of interactive exhibits that captured the students’ curiosity. The centre is designed to encourage exploration and discovery, with displays that invite visitors to touch, test and try out scientific ideas.
