Year 6 Evacuation

Year 6 Evacuation

As part of their WWII Homefront topic, Year 6 pupils shared an evacuation experience day in which they (dressed as WWII schoolchildren) took part in a range of fun games and activities to find out what it was really like for children during WWII.

The children played indoor and outdoor games that evacuee children would have played, wrote postcards home, filled in their war diary and made a gas mask box and their own luggage label. To end their busy day, the children celebrated the end of WWII with a VE street party.

A highlight for the children was the opportunity to ask a former pupil of St. Teresa’s, Mr Thornton, questions about his experience of being evacuated to the Lake District during WWII.
