In R.E. we discussed other religions and focused on Judaism. The children learnt all about Shabbat. Shabbat is a very special day for Jewish people and the name itself comes from the Hebrew word for Sabbath.
How Shabbat is celebrated:
Celebrating Shabbat in a Jewish home. … Just before dark, the mother lights the Shabbat candles and recites a prayer. The family drinks wine or grape juice from silver goblets and receives a blessing from the grandfather. They explain that Shabbat is a time to talk and celebrate with family.
Children designed and labelled a poster for all the items that are linked to the celebration of Shabbat. This included: silver goblets, wine and fruit juice, challah bread, candles, a white tablecloth, and silver cutlery.
