Problem Solving and Sorting 2-D Shapes
Year 2 have been learning about geometry. In today’s lesson, children worked with a partner and had to sort 2-D shapes – including a square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, octagon, circle, semi-circle, and a decagon.
The children were asked to think about how they could sort the shapes. They came up with many great ideas! This included: 2-D shapes that are blue, 2-D shapes that have four vertices, 2-D shapes that have less than 4 sides, 2-D shapes that have more than 4 sides…
It was great to watch the children work during this problem solving activity and see them apply their understanding in a fun and practically way!
