Evaporation Investigation

Evaporation Investigation

Year 4 are currently studying the scientific topic of ‘States of Matter’ in which they have learnt about solids, liquids and gases and the processes that change one state into another.

During their most recent science lesson, they investigated how water (a liquid) changes into its gaseous state of water vapour through the process of evaporation.Through hanging their wet tea-towels out to dry in various locations, they found out that the sun’s heat causes evaporation to take place the quickest- and this is why we hang our washing out to dry when it is sunny!

Growing plants

Growing plants

Year 2 children have produced some wonderful work in science and have been focusing on the needs of a plant. We looked at temperature, light and water. Children focused on a glossary of new words to add and enhance their scientific writing. This included: nutrients, temperature, energy, survive. Children were asked to produce a piece… Continue Reading

Science fun in forest school

Science fun in forest school

Year One has been learning about animals including humans. In forest school the children were challenged with grouping animals that live in the forest. Then they discussed what the different animals eat and then they had to complete a Venn diagram sorting the animals into carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. They had great fun finding insects… Continue Reading

Are we as fast as Usain Bolt?

Are we as fast as Usain Bolt?

In year 3 we have been investigating how quickly we can run 100m to explore how our times compare to the great Usain Bolt. To make sure it was a fair test we measured a 100m track on the yard using a trundle wheel and timed our selves accurately using a stop watch app. We… Continue Reading

Year 5 Science

Year 5 Science

As part of their science curriculum, Year 5 have been learning about the different parts of a flower. They worked methodically to dissect a daffodil to identify all the different parts including the male and female parts. They also discussed pollination and looked around our local school environment to identify plants that grow in our area. Continue Reading

The Three Little Pigs

Reception enjoyed the introduction to their traditional tales topic by learning about the story The Three Little Pigs. In literacy they have listened to different versions of the story, including a story read in Chinese! They have also retold the story using words and pictures. In science they have explored materials which the wolf could… Continue Reading

Science in Forest School

Science in Forest School

Year One went on a material walk, they looked closely at objects in and around school and what they were made of. They recorded these findings  on worksheets. Then they went on a scavenger hunt in forest school to find objects and work out their properties. Lots of great investigation work!     Continue Reading
